Tremblay even won the Horror Writers Association's Bram Stoker Award for this horror book. The 2018 novel has been nominated for a few different awards, like the Goodreads Choice Awards. The Cabin at the End of the World has some mixed reviews on bookish sites such as Goodreads, but all of that is overshadowed by its accolades. The stunning plot and gripping emotional torment presented through the novel are deserving of praise. Tremblay paints a peaceful family getaway complete with a beautiful setting and a couple of miles separating the characters from the rest of civilization. In fact, there are plenty of reasons to read the book outside the movie's shadow. There's plenty of opportunity for all viewers to be shocked.īecause there are some pretty significant changes from book to movie, there's absolutely no harm in indulging in both. As such, even loyal fans of The Cabin at the End of the World are not immune to Shyamalan's signature plot twists and surprising turns. This includes a different ending and tweaks in some of the more tense moments throughout. However, the director made some changes to the story to better fit his film. Night Shyamalan's Knock at the Cabin shares a pretty identical plot. Unlike most home-invasion thrillers, The Cabin at the End of the World brings a tense, psychologically draining twist that involves survival, sacrifice, and the apocalypse. That is until a burly, friendly man approaches the child in the front yard, followed by a small group of armed strangers. They’re pretty secluded but seem to relish in their family respite. The novel follows little Wen and her dads on vacation at a quaint, idyllic lakeside cabin. Knock at the Cabin is somewhat based on the horror-thriller novel The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay.
